About John
Originally from Peoria, IL, John has called Columbia home for 20 years. He earned his Master's at Mizzou, co-founded Influence & Co., and is now Chief Strategist at Relevance. He writes for Forbes and Inc., wrote the book Top of Mind, and chairs HJRJ Investments, the group behind Copperstone Park.
He admits he used to be "more of an egotistical entrepreneur." Friends like Brant Bukowsky showed him how to stay humble and look out for others. Now his favorite thing is connecting good people across Columbia so they can do more good together.
"You are the average of the people you spend the most time with, so surround yourself with amazing people."
Family
Wife Lindsay, kids Adelyn, Caroline and Teddy, plus Baxter the dog, Violet the rabbit and Winston the bearded dragon.
Favorite spots
Jose Jalapenos with family and friends, Flyover with Lindsay, and his Copperstone neighbors.
Greatest strength
Being as helpful to people as he can.
Greatest weakness
He talks so, so much. Lindsay can vouch for this.
If not this
He'd be a teacher, and he thinks teachers should be paid more.
Fun fact
At 14 he took (and passed) a lie detector test over a teacher's missing beer.
